Recorded in UCLA's Schoenberg Auditorium in 2003, this is a live, premiere concert performance by percussionist Don Nichols of Jonathon Grasse's composition "Themes of Literacy and Denial," for solo percussionist and digital soundscape (2003). The performer elaborates on structured improvisations, sketched in graphic notations depicting timbre, density, and register. The performer is always in a duet with the pre-recorded material. The digital soundscape was realized in the electronic music studio of UC Santa Cruz in 1995. This Bandcamp album separates the single piece into four parts that were performed without pause.
